Experts from companies that are part of the Marine Instrumentation Corporation (KMP) presented reports at the conference ‘Opportunities to Apply KMP Products on Fishing Vessels and at Commercial Fish Farm’ on the second day of the Global Fishery Forum & Seafood Expo Russia 2022.

KMP brings together leading Russian enterprises that develop and manufacture high-tech marine equipment, specifically: integrated bridge systems; automated systems to control technical equipment on vessels; local control systems for various purposes; dynamic positioning systems; radio navigation equipment; and much more.

The conference was moderated by Kurs Central Research Institute General Director Vitaly Khanychev. The reports and subsequent discussion focused on ways to develop the shipbuilding market given the current pressure from sanctions and ban on the supply of imported equipment and components to Russia. The meeting, which was held in the format of a roundtable, aimed to establish a productive dialogue between fishing industry companies, ship customers, and domestic manufacturers of various complex innovative ship equipment.

Avrora Scientific Production Association Concern was represented by Roman Petrov, director of the Automation of Civilian Ships and Vessels Research and Production Centre. In his report, he spoke about both innovations and traditional types of navigation and communication equipment that have seen particularly high demand in recent months. He noted that Avrora began phasing out imports 10 years ago, which has helped to successfully implement projects to develop devices and systems without the use of foreign components. Given the sharp increase in demand, the concern has used its existing developments to not only create a number of individual products and complexes, which can be used, among other things, to equip the fishing fleet, but also to ensure their mass production. This means that Avrora is ready to supply the fleet with equipment that meets the highest requirements for the manufacturability of modern vessels and is consistent with the production capabilities of the Russian market. 

Yan Ivakin, Deputy General Director for Innovation and Civil Projects at the Oceanpribor Concern, spoke about a project that his company is implementing to diversify production. In his report, he spoke about the process of and prospects for developing an automated system to ensure the environmental monitoring of fish farming facilities. The project is being implemented with support from the Sevastopol municipal administration.

Daniil Konovalov, Director for Commercial Affairs at Kurs Central Research Institute, presented products that KMP will supply for civilian and fishing vessels. He said the institute is ready to present a number of developments for ship systems and solutions, such as: 

• Radio navigation equipment included in the integrated bridge system
• An integrated control system for technical equipment
• A dynamic positioning system for vessels
• Electrical equipment for vessels
• Fire extinguishing systems and solutions
• Galley equipment and equipment for provision storerooms
• Ventilation and air conditioning system

The series of reports concluded with a presentation by Meridian CEO Sergey Chizhov, who spoke about the advantages and details of the integrated supply of equipment for the fitting out of ships, including the design, engineering, supply, and installation of equipment.

Wrapping up the conference, Avrora CEO Konstantin Shilov noted that, in addition to developing and introducing new equipment, manufacturers need to take into account market problems, including searching for sources of funding and achieving stable serial production.
